Lounge or dining chairs: which should a hotel import from China?

The cheapest Lounge chairs here is $47 against $38 for the cheapest Dining chairs. A typical Lounge chairs runs $186, a typical Dining chairs $85. The catalogue holds 104 on the Lounge chairs side and 52 on the Dining chairs side. Add about $2,250 for sea freight to your port; import duty and clearance are separate and paid by the buyer on arrival. Lounge chairs for the lobby, dining chairs for the restaurant, and the money goes to the lobby. A lobby chair is seen by every guest and sat in by few, so it is bought on how it looks and how it survives being looked at. A restaurant chair is sat in all day by strangers, so it is bought on the foam and the cover. Buying either to the other one’s brief is the most common way a fit-out budget is wasted.

Lounge chairs. Armchairs and low seating, for a lobby, a waiting area or a suite.

Dining chairs. Table seating built for daily service rather than for display.

“Typical” is the median, not the average: a make spanning an older sedan and a current flagship has no meaningful average. “With freight” adds a flat sea-freight estimate to your port; import duty, customs clearance and inland delivery are paid by the buyer on arrival.

Questions buyers ask

Why is a lounge chair so much dearer than a dining chair?

Volume and filling. A lounge chair is several times the cubic metres of a dining chair and carries far more foam, so it costs more to make and more to ship. The gap on the landed figure is wider than the gap on the price.

Is this furniture built for contract use?

Some of it. Anything sold into hotels and restaurants is made to take daily service, and anything sold into homes is not, at the same shape and often the same price. Ask which a given model is before ordering a container: the frame is rarely the difference, the foam and the cover are.

How is freight worked out on furniture?

By the cubic metre, not per piece. A forty-foot container holds about 58 m³ of loaded volume, and what a piece costs to land is its price plus its share of that box. It is why two pieces at the same price can land at very different costs, and why nothing on this page carries a flat per-item freight figure.

Are import duty and customs clearance included?

No. Every figure here covers the goods and the sea freight to your port of discharge. Import duty, clearance and inland delivery are paid by the buyer on arrival, and the rate depends on your country.

Do I pay anything on this website?

No. The site takes no payment and holds no deposit. A request for quote creates no obligation, and nothing is charged until terms are agreed directly with a sourcing manager.
