“With freight” adds a flat sea-freight estimate to a West African port; import duty, customs clearance and inland delivery are paid by the buyer on arrival.
We filmed the electric and hybrid cars at the used car market in Guangzhou and asked the sellers their prices. A 2023 Tesla Model Y with 3,800 km was 188,800 yuan (about $28,200), and a 2024 BYD Leopard 8 plug-in hybrid with 25,000 km around 360,000 yuan (about $53,700), against roughly 450,000 yuan new. These are asking prices in China, before freight: add about $2,250 for sea freight to a West African port. Import duty and clearance are paid by you on arrival.
Less than many buyers expect. The 2024 BYD Leopard 8 we filmed, with 25,000 km, was around 360,000 yuan against roughly 450,000 new, about a fifth off. Do not expect half price on a car a year or two old.
The electric section we filmed had Tesla, Zeekr, Li Auto, Volkswagen and BYD, including the Song Plus plug-in hybrid. We were there buying three Li Auto cars for a customer, 2025 or newer. Stock changes every week, so ask for the model you want and we check what is available.
